EELC was officially created on 7 November 2007, when it was entered into the State Registry. The memorandum of association was signed a few days before, on the 2 November 2007. Founders of the EELC were Estonian Fund for Nature and three environmental lawyers – Kärt Vaarmari, Liis Keerberg and Silver Nittim. The organization was created with the purpose of investigating the implementation of the environmental law in practice and improving the quality of such implementation.
Improvement of environmental decisions (guaranteeing that they are balanced and constitutional) is also the aim of the activities of EELC today. Provision of legal aid, compilation of analyses, trainings and information exchange are our main methods for achieving this aim.
As an important step in the development of the organization, the activities strategy for years 2011-2013 was created last year.
