During 2017 - 2021 Estonian Environmental Law Center (EELC) together with partners worked on enhancing the discussion between the local communities, landowners and officials and search for solutions to the problems arising from the established restrictions on Natura 2000 areas. EELC’s role in the initiative was to provide legal advice in possible conflicts between the local communities, individuals and authorities.
One of the main deliverables of the work finished in the beginning of 2022 was an analytical overview of the requirements of the Natura 2000 network in the EU and Estonian law. The text is written in Estonian. Chapter 3.2 - Protection of the Natura 2000 network in Estonian law, is translated in English. It gives a detailed view of the legal regime for protection of the Natura 2000 network in Estonian law. We believe that this part would be the most interesting for an international reader curious about the Estonian nature protection law.
