Legal aid and case studies

Fom May 2008 until June 2010, EELC provided legal aid in strategic cases in order to follow the actual environmental decision-making process and identify the deficiencies in the legislation and practice.

Altogether, legal aid was to an extent provided in 60 cases, in approx. 20 cases more thorough advice or representation in legal or administrative proceedings was provided. Descriptions and materials of the cases are published in a separate section on our webpage in Estonian.

For some cases, case studies were compiled on the basis of which proposals to amend the legislation or practice were made to persons making decisions or officials responsible for legislative drafting.

The project was carried out with the support of NGO Fund that is financed by governments of Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein through Open Estonia Foundation.
